Filter Balls & Wool Flakes

Discover Filter Balls & Filter Wool Flakes as efficient filter media for your pool

Filter balls & wool flakes

Filter balls are ideal for keeping your pool water clear and clean. These small balls are lighter and more efficient than conventional filter media and filter residues up to a size of 1.5 μm (sand approx. 40 μm), giving you an excellent filter result. In addition, our Steinbach Filter Balls are easy to use and you no longer have sand in the pool. Made from 100 % polyethylene, the filter balls are energy-saving, environmentally friendly and have a high dirt-holding capacity and a long service life. With a quantity of 0.7 kg of filter balls, you can replace 25 kg of filter sand.

But our new Filter Wool Flakes go one step further! Their unique 100% wool structure offers an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional filter balls. The Filter Wool Flakes effectively filter out even the tiniest particles from the pool water. With an impressive dirt-holding capacity of 500% of their own weight, they guarantee first-class filter performance. Their ease of use and durability make them a practical and efficient solution for pool maintenance.

Especially efficient cleaning: Filter Balls

In contrast to using filter sand, the use of Filter Balls offers considerable energy savings when operating your filter pump. This is due to the fact that both the lower weight (0.7 kg Steinbach Filter Balls are equivalent to 25 kg of filter sand) and the porous structure of the Filter Balls create less resistance in the filter system and therefore less energy is required for the pumping process.

The E[wool]ution: Filter Wool Flakes

The Filter Wool Flakes represent a further development in pool filtration. With their unique composition of 100% wool, they offer an environmentally friendly alternative to Filter Balls. Compared to Filter Balls, they have an even finer filter fineness of 1 μm, which means that they can efficiently remove even the smallest particles from the pool water.

Frequently asked questions for Filter Balls & Wool Flakes:

This is basically possible without any problems. When using sand filter systems, however, pay attention to the proportions: 700g filter balls correspond to 25 kg filter sand. Please also note that you must not backwash with filter balls, as this can cause filter balls to get into the system and cause damage.

Depending on the degree of soiling, Filter Balls should be cleaned with the garden hose approx. every fortnight and dried in the sun.

Do not put Filter Balls or filter Wool Flakes in the washing machine or dryer. The Filter Balls and Filter Wool Flakes become much smaller when wet and can get behind the drum and damage the machine.

Backwashing would pull the Filter Balls or filter Wool Flakes into the lines and clog them. The resulting pressure in the filter tank would be too high and could damage the filter tank.

All Steinbach and INTEX filter systems (sand filter systems, cartridge filter systems & filter pumps) are suitable for salt water as long as the salt content in the water is below 0.5 % (salt electrolysis). Before winterising, clean the filter system thoroughly with standard bathroom cleaner, clear tap water and a lint-free cloth.

All filter systems and filter pumps have a sound pressure level* of < 70 dB(A).

*The emission volume is comparable to a large household appliance.

In this case, the filter medium used is often contaminated. The filter medium used (quartz filter sand or filter balls) is subject to a certain amount of wear and tear, even when operated as intended under optimal conditions, and should be replaced at regular intervals, depending on the operating time and degree of contamination. For sand filter systems, switch off the pump and then set the filter setting to ‚Rückspülen/backwash'. Switch the filter system on again. Carry out the backwash process until clean water comes out of the backwash line (max. 2 minutes). When using Filter Balls, do not backwash. If the filter performance decreases, we recommend washing the Filter Balls by hand. If necessary, the Filter Balls should be replaced. In cartridge filter systems, the filter medium should be changed approx. every 2 weeks.

If the pressure is too low, the pre-filter is dirty and the pump is not getting enough water. Clean the pre-filter and check the suction line and the water level.

If the sand is newly filled in, or the sand is already very fine due to the use of several seasons, small sand particles may still be present. The solution is to backwash several times until the water comes out clear, or to fill in new sand.

The filter system should always be the first part in the water treatment system. The rest of the pool accessoires should only be connected after the filter system. A heat pump should ideally always be the last part in the water treatment system, so that the filtered, treated water flows through the heat pump and the path of the heated water into the pool is as short as possible.
